Batizados are events when the new students join the group and receive their cord, in group senzala this is white.
The student cords run in order from white, yellow, orange, and grey.
The instructor cord is blue, and the teachers are green, then purple.
The contra mestre cord is brown
In senzala the Master (Mestre) wears the red cord.
When the students and teachers are ready to change up to the next cord, the master will ask them to demonstrate their proficiency and generally each level requires teachers and masters to baptize the student with a bençau, or takedown... In our group after the cords are given it is expected for the players to play each other in the roda.
Children often receive half coloured cords with white, or just the tips coloured, eg: white with orange tips |
